School
after West Chicago
|
| Did
you attend any other schools or training classes? If so,
Where did you go? |
NIU
for a year, then Northwestern University |
| What
was your degree: |
B.A.,
Psychology |
|
Welcome
to the Real World |
| Current
Employer: |
US
Navy |
| Job
Title and Description: |
Surface
Warface Officer |
| How
long have you been there: |
Five
years |
| Any
other work related history you want to share: |
Commissioned
in '98; made LT a year ago. Did my first tour in
USS WADSWORTH (FFG 9) as an officer in Operations Department;
earned my warfare pin, completed a counter-drug ops deployment,
and had some pretty awesome port visits. Second tour in
USS DECATUR (DDG 73) as an officer in the Combat Systems
Department; we participated in Operation Noble Eagle on
and after 9/11 and deployed in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom. Just transferred to shore duty and am coordinating
training for a ship deploying to the Gulf. |
|
Your
Family |
| Tell
us about your family. Are you married? Were you married?
Any kids? We want to know everything (that you are willing
share) |
Single,
no kids. Eventually, perhaps, but the Navy's tough
on relationships. |
|
Let's
go back in time |
| What
is your favorite West Chicago memory: |
It
always seemed fitting to me that we graduated on D-Day. |
| What
is your least favorite West Chicago memory: |
Being
perpetually, painfully shy, awkward, and tongue-tied. |
| Who
was your favorite teacher at West Chicago and why: |
Mr.
Leitner. He demanded more of me than any other teacher. |
| What
was your favorite class at West Chicago and why: |
First
period orchestra: pre-class practice time was an escape.
Freshman and junior English with Mr. Leitner: even
more than good writing habits, I learned to give and receive
criticism in his class. And, although it took me eight
years to complete the assignment, Billy Budd really was
a pretty good book. |
| What
was your least favorite class at West Chicago and why: |
P.E.
was easily the worst five hours of every week of four
years of my life. |
|
Everything
Else |
| If
there is something you want to share please feel free
to tell us what it is. You can include any hobbies, volunteer
work and what ever else is on your mind. |
I've
come a long way down a path that was totally unimaginable
to me in '93, and I've enjoyed reading about the paths
everyone else has found. I hope the next ten years
are as interesting and fulfilling as the last ten, and
a good deal more peaceful. Best of luck to you all. |
